Volunteering is without doubt one of the most rewarding things I have done over the past 5 years. My experiences have ranged from charity work with the Dublin Simon Community and Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind to mentoring and leadership through Toastmasters and Engineers Ireland. I have also volunteered at Dublin Web Summit, Croke Park and Smart Futures Ireland to name just a few.
I’m an active member of the Young Engineers Society branch of Engineers Ireland and the current chairman. In this role I lead a strong committee who are dedicated to representing all members of Engineers Ireland under the age of 35 (>10,000 engineers). In recent years I have also volunteered as STEPS liaison officer, secretary and vice-chair.
Since 2014 I’ve been on the organising team for the annual Young Engineers gala ball featuring 250+ attendees. Some of the highlights from the event are shown below.
I have been a volunteer of STEPS since 2013. STEPS is an outreach programme aimed at informing students, parents and the general public on engineering as a career. As an engineering communicator I have been helping to promote and encourage uptake of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) through talks and workshops.
I also volunteer as a member of the governing council of Engineers Ireland, responsible for advising, and informing strategic objectives of the executive board. I was recently appointed as a representative on the Engineers Ireland website project board.
